The women's empowerment centre will provide a much needed opportunity for women in the local community to learn a skill that will give them a means of earning an income to support themselves and give them the opportunity to send their children to school. Various workshops will be given, and the women will be able to choose which workshop they feel would be best for them.

Although the centre is yet to be built, skill training has already started through working with the women within their community. So far, the women have been making jewellery and tote bags, which are available for sale with all proceeds going directly to the women.

**UPDATE**
The women have asked me to let everyone know the huge, positive impact the jewellery and bag sales are having on their lives. They told me, with a mischievous glint in their eyes, that now their husbands come to them for money and they are more respected. The money is being spent on food, clothing and medicines - after a percentage has been used to buy new materials to make more goods. Several more women from the village have joined the group, benefiting more families.

Sanitary protection for the women

We have now sourced menstrual cups for the women in the local community to use for sanitary protection from Mooncup. Currently they are using old rags for absorption, which is an uncomfortable and often ineffective method, with frequent leaking causing them to feel unclean and embarassed. Menstrual cups are worn internally and are reusable for up to 10 years, making them an ideal choice for the women of The Gambia who have no access to commercial sanitary protection. Will you sponsor a woman to receive a menstrual cup? Just £6 will provide one woman with 10 years of dignity and control over their sanitary protection.

To sponsor one or more women, please click on the donate button below and enter the amount you would like to contribute. Any amount is greatly received and will go solely towards providing the women with menstrual cups.
